Capercaillie

Capercaillie  in Poland, as in many other countries of Central and Western Europe, is becoming rarer bird. It keeps the downward trend of the population. The decline in numbers has a number of reasons. The most important are habitat changes in the areas where the birds lived.

The Forestery Management Gleboki Brod  introduces a project to protect a bird in the area of Augustów Primeval Forest .
In order to introduce re-population of capercaillie effectively  many activities were planned:
1.The restoration of capercaillie populations and preservation of their genetic pools in the Bory Dolnośląskie Forest and the  Augustów Primeval Forest.
2.Monitoring of capercaillie populations.
3.Reducing and monitoring the population numbers of mammalian predators.
4.Improving and monitoring the living habitat of capercaillies.
5.Reducing human impact.
6.Environmental education and promotion of the project.
